--Summary submitted by Shane Kirchner-KACTE president (2020-2022)
Thanks to Washburn University for hosting our first hybrid conference. There were about 20 individuals present on site and another 15 to 20 joined us remotely as their schedules allowed.
The morning started with the fall KACTE business meeting. The new business included reviewing an updated agreement with AACTE. This was signed and submitted to AACTE.
The theme of the day was "strengthening professional pathways." Mischel Miller and Shane Carter for TEAL at KSDE presented the licensed personnel report and explained the various paths to licensure offered in Kansas. That was followed by Idalia Shuman (KNEA), Cathy Mong (USD259), and Jill Gonzalez-Brazo (MNU) sharing more about the CTE-future educators pathways and Educators Rising and related conferences.
Over lunch Mark Desetti (KNEA legislative liaison) share an update of actions brewing in Topeka.
The day concluded with the ATE-K business meeting.
Throughout the day, participants had the chance to network and reconnect since this was the first in person conference in more than a year. We all had the chance to learn what we each can do to help recruit more into the critical field of teaching.
